Postal Swim

The Postal Swim organised by the DDSF will take place at Victoria Leisure Centre, Manners Road, Ilkeston DE7 8AT on Saturday 25th February.
Meet in the cafe at 15:00 for a short meeting to decide on who goes in which lane, the pool is available from 15:15 and the timed swim will start at 15:30 and end at 16:30. The Leisure Centre has recently been upgraded and I am told has all necessary facilities for disabled swimmers. Please let me know if you have any special requirements.
In addition to officials we also need a spotter for each swimmer to count the number of lengths each swimmer has completed, so we would like parents to help, but you are not allowed to count for your own child.
The cost is £3.75 per person, please make all cheques or postal orders payable to BLDSA and send them to me along with your entry form as soon as possible. We can take no more than 24 swimmers and possibly less depending on peoples disabilities.
For those who have not taken part in the Postal Swim before, the aim is to swim as far as you can, in a pool near you, in one hour.
Every entrant receives a cloth badge as a souvenir of the event with medals are awarded as detailed below.
The British Long Distance Swimming Association (BLDSA) welcomes participation by everyone, whether or not you are a member of a club, young or old, male or female, this is what the swim is all about. We all like to set ourselves goals and see how we compare with other like minded people. You do NOT have to swim for an hour, just as far as you can. This is your chance to pit yourself against your personal best distance swum in an hour or set yourself a target to go for next year. We also take great pleasure in welcoming disabled swimmers to participate in the event. Disabled swimmers are divided into one of the following three categories to define the degree of their disability:
  1. Ambulant: Those with a predominantly physical disability.
  2. Wheelchair: Those who spend most of their time in a wheelchair.
  3. Non-physical: Those with a non-physical disability. (i.e. mental/sensory disability)
Club coaches should decide the relevant category for each disabled swimmer. To indicate the category of their disability would each disabled swimmer please put a H behind their name along with the number relevant to their classification e.g. H1, H2 or H3.
If you or anyone connected with your club want to take part please supply the following information:-
First Name, Surname Male/Female Age on 1st January 2012 Disability (if appropriate):- H1 or H2 or H3
H1 Those with a predominantly physical disability
H2 Those who spend most of their time in a wheelchair
H3 Those with a non-physical disability
If you want further information this can be obtained from the BLDSA web site www.bldsa.org.uk
If you want to make this a sponsored event for your favourite charity please tell me which charity you want to support.

Derbyshire Disability Swimming Development Day

Alfreton Leisure Centre

Venue:      Alfreton Leisure Centre,

                   Church Street, Alfreton,

                   Derbyshire, DE55 7BD

Date:          Sunday 19th February 2012

Attention all Swimming Clubs, Leisure Centres, Schools and Swim Schemes.

The ASA, Derbyshire Sport and DC Leisure have worked together to provide a fun, informative day to further develop disability swimming within Derbyshire.

The extremely popular CPD, “Integrating Disabled Swimmers into a Mainstream Coaching Environment” will be available at no cost, so hurry places will go fast! There will be the chance to put your new learnt skills into practice with an option to stay for a practical pool session, supported by ASA Playground to Podium Officer, Carl Cooper from 4.00pm – 6.00pm. This is not compulsory for your CPD points but many people find it of real benefit to work with experienced teachers and coaches at these sessions.

The CPD and pool session will be of benefit to teachers and coaches as there are elements that cater for both and will be targeted at the needs of all those attending.

Please visit www.theiosonline.com to book on to this seminar.

Just an update on the CPD. It is now live and up on the IOS system. I have included below, the discount voucher code and process that is required to book onto the course. It will show zero places available at the moment but that can be ignored, it is because we are using the voucher codes and have 20 free places available, so let’s get it sold out! The information below, is just cut and pasted from an email that I received. Could you please let everyone that you know, who may be interested know about the code. If we take up the first 20 places, I will try to apply for more.

Voucher code CSX1XFY8HF to make bookings with this voucher

The seminar is live on the system for people to start booking on using their voucher code. People will need to log into their individual account www.theiosonline.com > My IOS > log in as existing user or create an account for an individual if they haven’t already set themselves up on the system.

Once into their account they will need to go to All Training > Development seminars > find the seminar > places will show as 0 but if they click on the basket the next page they will be able to enter the voucher code > follow online instructions to finish checkout.

The closing date for people booking onto the seminar is 11 February 2012.

If you have swimmers with a disability, who can swim 15m or more, they can benefit from the day as there will be a FREE swimming session available to them and all abilities / impairments will be catered for on the day. Please note, if the event is over subscribed, priority will be given to swimmers aged 14 and under. An opportunity for those aged over 14 will be provided at a later date. (This does not apply to classified swimmers).
